The recorder is a woodwind musical instrument that has been played since the 14th Century and has ancestors dating worldwide from pre-Columbian times. Today, it is considered a precursory instrument for the flute, clarinet, oboe, or saxophone.
Students who learn to play recorder at an early age find easy transitions to other musical instruments. It is easily a “gateway instrument” while a traditional classical instrument.
